APPLICATIONS
⋆✩ applications ✩⋆
The exact scheduling for application rounds is still being ironed out! As of now, we just have the dates for our current round listed in the status link below.
Please post your application as a comment to this post. We do not accept linked apps from your journal. Please also read the application section in our FAQ for more details with regards to what can or cannot be apped. Players may only apply for one (1) character at a time. We do not accept multiple applications for the same character at this time, so two or more applications for the same character will be processed on a first-come, first-served basis.
PLAYER
NAME: Your handle.
CONTACT: Some form of contact to reach you OOCly, whether it be Plurk, Discord, journal PM, or otherwise.
OVER 18? Please be 18 or older to play in this game.
CURRENT CHARACTERS: List if you play another character in game.
CHARACTER
NAME: In western order.
CANON: The series your character is from. If they’re an original character, state that instead.
CANON POINT: The point in time within the series your character is from.
BACKGROUND: Wiki links are strongly preferred for canon characters, but if there isn't one available, please write a brief background/history of your character. Bullet points are acceptable. We don't need an essay.
SUITABILITY: This section doesn't have to be lengthy, but please detail why you think your character would be an interesting fit for the nature of this game. Events in-game will frequently challenge a character's morality, so how will they react if they're required to do something that goes against their values? Will they rebel against the circumstances or will they make the best of it? Will they be right at home or totally out of their league? Generally, we're looking to see what ideas you have in terms of your character's arc/development once they're subjected to the game's environment.
QUESTIONNAIRE:
⟡ Your character is on an exploration quest when they find an injured Pokemon in need of help. This Pokemon appears to be in distress and is quite dangerous, posing a risk to your character even if they mean well, and putting your quest mission at risk. What do they do? What are some possibilities of how they work with teammates to address this, or do they go at it alone?
⟡ Your character's worst enemy has recently appeared in game, and has joined the guild your character is part of. They both want to tackle the same quest, and your character's enemy suggests that they work together as a team to accomplish this goal. How does your character respond to this?
⟡ The leader of your character's guild has just approached your character with an offer: they will provide your character with extra supplies, reputation points, and help them with any of their current struggles. In exchange, they ask for your character to do a favor for them that may harm the other guilds, and will not specify what the favor is in advance. It sounds shady, but it's the deal of a lifetime in your character's path to get back home, and refusing it may cause strife for your character within their current guild. What do they think of this offer? What do they ultimately decide to do?
⟡ Due to shortages on supplies, the city is facing issues deciding where to cut corners during this rough time. Somehow, the responsibility has fallen on your character's shoulders, and they have to make a decision. If they send out an extra team of Pokemon, they will be able to gather more food, and through that, save the lives of dozens of starving Pokemon that were in dire need of nutrition. However, the only Pokemon available to scout for food are those working at the pokeclinic, and sending them out would mean certain death for at least two ill patients. What does your character decide to do? How do they feel about this choice, and how would they deal with the pushback that comes from either side?
Please answer all four of the above questions. Answers should go in-depth enough to illustrate your character’s actions and the motivations behind them, but there is no word count minimum or maximum. The aim is to get an understanding of your character without having to do the traditional point by point personality section, so please keep that in mind while filling them out.
Answers should be written as if the reader is canonblind. The focus of these questions is on the morality behind each situation, and how it applies to your character; if there are additional details that would impact your character’s actions that are not already specified, feel free to choose and elaborate on these details and their relevance yourself.
POKEMON: List 1-3 Pokemon you would like to play your character turning into. For each of them listed, please provide a short explanation of why you feel it's a good fit, and what you would do with this Pokemon form, such as goals or what you'd enjoy playing with. If more than one Pokemon is listed, mods will help make the choice for you. If there are any concerns or issues with the chosen Pokemon, revisions will be considered to discuss and address them accordingly.
GUILD OPT-OUT: OPTIONAL. Players may choose to opt out of one (1) guild if they feel it would be a poor fit for their character. Players are also free to use this section to plead their case on wanting one specific guild, if they feel passionately about it, and list any concerns they have with joining the game under the other guilds. Mods will take this into consideration as much as possible, but only one guild may be totally opted out of at this time.
SAMPLES: Provide two (2) samples that clearly demonstrate character voice/personality consistent with your answers written within the past year. Network or log (either action or prose) are all acceptable. At least one thread must be from a Bottlecap Bay TDM.

APPLICATION "RUBRIC" - some extra clarity on what we're looking for!
⟡ Please be sure that the application matches the formatting of the code provided on the application page. Some minor edits are allowed, but the application should be legible, coding shouldn't be broken, and care should be taken to ensure that instructions are followed on the application page itself (i.e. posting the application and not linking it).
⟡ Watch for grammar, spelling, and overall readability! Using canon-specific terms can be confusing for a mod who may not know your canon, so be sure to define necessary terms and leave out the unnecessary ones. Summarizing is totally fine, as long as we get the gist of what a section is asking for.
⟡ Make sure all sections are filled out upon submitting the application!
IMPORTANT SECTIONS
⟡ While all sections of the application serve a purpose and are expected to be filled out, there are a few important sections that can determine the difference between a rejection or an acceptance! We will cover what we're looking for in each, and their importance.
⟡ SUITABILITY
Though this section doesn't have to be lengthy, it is hugely important for gauging how both a player and character might fit into the game, as well as what you as a player hope to get out of the game. This may also offer some more into the way your character will approach different scenarios and help a tiny bit with the guild decision. The main things we are looking for here is how you plan to engage with the game and setting as well as what role your character will play in it. For example, specifying that you're interested in character relationships and seeing if your character will go down a more "bad" route or "good" route depending on the treatment of those around them, that would be worth mentioning.
⟡ QUESTIONNAIRE
This is the most important section of the app! This tells us about your character, their morality, their decision making skills and processes, and lets us know which guild would be the most interested in recruiting them. As this replaces a personality section, it will also serve as a way to see what your character is like, assure this matches up with the samples provided, and give us a picture of your character and their mindset as a whole. An answer like "they would do nothing" is not satisfactory, and we would expect some explanation in meta about why the character chooses this, what they might be thinking, or any other insights you find relevant.
⟡ SAMPLES
Along with at least one of the threads being from the TDM, we are looking for a few things here! One, that the personality of the character in the tags matches what is conveyed in the application above. Two, that the tags provided show a depth to the character, as well as engagement from the player with those they are playing with. (This does not mean shorter tags are not allowed, but does mean that even in shorter tags, we expect to see clear thought put into what is provided inside a tag, engagement with the character and the setting.) Three, that threads aren't suddenly dropped in excess, and that there's no clear favoritism between certain tag partners. We'd like to stress that we don't intend to nitpick this section, but that these are things we look for and may cite in a revision or rejection notice.
